Fossella Admits to Affair

Staten Island Republican, Vito J. Fossella, issued a statement on Thursday acknowledging that he had had an extramarital affair with Laura Fay, a former Air Force lieutenant colonel, and that the two of them have a 3-year-old daughter together.
I have had a relationship with Laura Fay, with whom I have a three-year-old daughter. My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain to the people I love and I am truly sorry. While I understand that there will be many questions, including those about my political future, making any political decisions right now are furthest from my mind. Over the coming weeks and months, I will to continue to do my job and I will work hard to heal the deep wounds I have caused.
Fossella was arrested on May 1 in Alexandria, Va., and charged with drunken driving. He made a call to an “old friend” who was Laura Fay. The New York Daily News started digging and learned she was a single mother of a 3 year old so they started asking questions. Feeling the pressure, Fossella hired a crisis counselor to deal with the inquiries by saying, “they were old friends.”
Word also got around about a statement he made to police when he was arrested. He told them he was going to visit a sick daughter.
with all of this mounting against him, he had no choice but to come clean. Had he just called his wife from the beginning, they could have kept it a secret forever. Actually, had he never cheated on his wife, he wouldn’t have these secrets nor would he be embarrassed.
